Julio Bashmore ‘Hands of God’ Stopframe Props

Julio Bashmore God Hands

This set of hands for Blinkink, to be used in Julio Bashmore's music video for the single 'Peppermint', were cast in various positions, allowing a range of actions such as dropping, pouring and clapping. The video was animated by Noah Harris whose website this link leads to. We used a member of our own staff as the casting master, whose hands were considered close enough to the proportions of classical sculpture to be used in this project. The moulds were made from Alginate, chosen for its relatively quick curing time and the level of detail it captures, right down to individual pores and creases within the skin. Our propmakers have lent their setbuilding and sculpting skills to range of stopframe props and animation projects over the years, including hundreds of cast Creme Egg props for Aardman and the Goo Games, and a set of hand-painted Russian dolls for an Eircom…

Andy’s Dinosaur Adventures Prop ‘Dino Clock’

Andy's Dinosaur Adventures Clock

Built for BBC Features, the Dino Clock features in Andy’s Dinosaur Adventures as he travels back through time. Our prop making team rapidly fashioned an old-school Grandfather clock from lightweight composite material, and used various art working tricks to create a realistic aged varnish effect. We were able to cram in extra details such as ammonite end-scrolls and dinosaur zodiac clock face, and a pterodactyl on a pop-out cuckoo mechanism. The full-sized grandfather clock model is nearly two and a half metres tall, and combines the cutting-edge convenience of our CNC machine, the traditional hand-painting techniques of our art workers, and the skills of our temporal engineers to create a working time machine. Amalgam has a strong history of creating outstanding props and sets for television and film, being situated near the headquarters of several of the UK's household names in animation and film making. Hessiclip functional prototypes for the building industry

vacuum-cast-prototype

Made for Coda Plastics, these functional prototypes of Hessiclip were produced using our 3D printing and vacuum casting processes in order that the product's inventor could not only test his design in a practical and realistic way but could also produce publicity and marketing materials well ahead of full-scale production.

Western Power Distribution Project Falcon Energy Models

Each energy model in this series made for Western Power Distribution is intended to simply demonstrate complex concepts with regard to energy distribution and electricity management. We made a range of models, each illustrating a different aspect of electrical power management in a low-carbon network. T1; how temperature affects the performance of power in a network.

Submarine prop – BBC Atlantis Oracle hull

This submarine prop, visible in the first episode of the BBC fantasy drama 'Atlantis,' represents the ruined Oracle Hull and was artworked to appear rusted and battered from years on the sea floor. While the submarine prop is a relatively simple construction, the skill of our painters transformed the object's material properties completely, from a soft construction of lightweight foam, the final object looks like a heavy, oxidised metal bulkhead.

BBC Atlantis Pandora’s Box

The master for this Pandora's Box prop was carved by hand, and cast in a number of different iterations - a hard hinged version for closeup shots and a stunt-safe soft foam variant. We are able to offer a comprehensive propmaking service, taking initial concept sketches and artwork and translating them into fully realised models, props and setpieces. We use a range of techniques in creating props and can create objects that fulfil a range of needs, from large scale set decoration to stunt-safe soft prop weaponry. We can incorporate intricate armatures and metalworked components within these objects for internal supports or location points for other fixings.

Prop Weapons and artefacts

Prop weapons

Our prop weapons and other objects have most recently been featured in the BBC fantasy drama 'Atlantis;' these props in some cases had to be soft and stunt-safe. Our advanced vacuum casting facility allows us to cast props in a range of hardnesses and materials depending on their application, all with the artworked material finishes of metal, wood, plastic, skin and almost any other material required. While we can quickly take casts of objects supplied to us, we are easily able to create props from drawings and sketches.

BBC Atlantis Temple Ruin Sets

BBC Atlantis set by Amalgam setbuilders in Bristol

Made by our setbuilders, these polyfoam sets were used in the opening sequence of the BBC fantasy drama 'Atlantis.' We made a number of ruined temple elements, including toppled columns and the head of a fallen stone Minotaur. Our expansive workshop, large-bed CNC machine and team of experienced sculptors and setbuilders gives us the ability to create striking large-scale setpieces for film, theatre and television. Our work can be seen in numerous adverts and films produced here in Bristol and elsewhere, and we are capable of quickly fabricating panels and components on our CNC machine as much as we can rapidly carve large foam sculpts by hand. Modelmaking is not limited to small scales. We are just as capable of producing stunning objects on massive scales as we are small ones, and we approach every project with the same eye for detail and quality we have become known for. The…

BBC Atlantis Rat Sculpts

Props

The stone rat sculpts can be seen in Medusa's cave as a grisly foreshadowing of her petrifying abilities. Our props team sculpted a pack of five rats, and artworked them by hand to high levels of realism to replicate the texture of both fur and stone. We have provided a number of other props, sculpts and set pieces for the BBC fantasy drama 'Atlantis,' including crumbling ruins, the rusted hull of a submarine and various soft prop swords.

BBC Atlantis Sculpted Props and Sets

These sculpted props and set pieces were made for the BBC fantasy drama "Atlantis". Our large workshop space and team of skilled sculptors enabled us to easily accommodate and produce a wide range of sculpted props and fabrications.  Some of these were the biggest models we've made this year. In addition to large-scale scenic pieces and sets, we were able to cast a collection of hand-held sculpted props, including vials, swords and ornamented boxes. All of our props were hand-finished to striking levels of realism, be it rich wood textures or crumbling stone. Our comprehensive workshop is well stocked with cutting-edge computer aided machining equipment, welding facilities, a moulding and casting department and a 3D printing facility. This is complemented with a healthy database of artists, model makers and craftspersons. We are just as capable of creating large steel-supported set pieces as we are intricate handmade hero props for close-up…
