Maritime Scale Models: via Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Our director, Chris Conlon, took a short sojourn to Mallorca in August – to personally hand deliver one of our hand finished, high detail maritime scale models. It’s always tricky to ensure safe passage of a valuable model, which is why we work with our clients to agree the safest transportation route – and if needed, we build a suitable transit case.

This beautiful replica of the sailing yacht Antares was built at 1/50 scale of the original design. Our team constructed the model using a mixture of latest technologies and hand fabricated parts. It is finished in high detail mirroring the original design, with glossy colour matched paintwork. With the model wrapped extensively for transit, Chris reached our local airport and hopped on the flight to Palma.

Although the inclement weather prevented Chris from visiting it, another of our favourite yachts, the restored William Fife yacht TERN was harboured nearby at Club de Mar. It was the week of the highly celebrated Vela Classica Mallorca – so Chris was disappointed he couldn’t stay longer. Making the 1/12th replica of the TERN required our traditional hand-making skills, to re-produce the detail of the deck furniture and rigging.

Of course, we are talking about our maritime scale models this week because our models have been on display at recent shows, including Monaco Yacht Show, and the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is on 5-9 November.

Three of our innovative maritime scale models have appeared at Monaco: the well-publicised reveal from Dubois Naval Architects design 405, nicknamed The Beast in 2014 and now officially named NGONI, has been back in the workshop for some minor alterations.

The second was a new tender design from Ken Freivokh Design and Pascoe International. They unveiled the design with a 1/30 scale model finished in high detail, to represent the luxurious, yet vital support service for passengers of the superyachts.

Our long standing friends over at Claydon Reeves also had Caspian on display in the hospitality area at Monaco.

If you’re exhibiting at one of the upcoming international boat shows, call Chris for more information about our quick turnaround and diverse techniques for delivering the highest quality maritime scale models.
